Day 2
Þingvellir national park
Our first stop on the iconic Golden Circle route is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. As you enter, you'll be greeted by the breathtaking Almannagjá gorge, offering a glimpse into the Earth's geological history. Here, along the European American fault line, visible evidence of plate tectonics reveals itself, showcasing the ongoing separation of the two continents and the formation of Iceland, the world's youngest country.
Geysir geothermal area
Continuing our journey, we arrive at Geysir, lending its name to the phenomenon of spouting hot springs. Prepare to be mesmerized by the mighty Strokkur geyser, which erupts with remarkable regularity, offering an awe-inspiring display every few minutes. Surrounding Strokkur are an array of geothermal features, including fumaroles, mud pools, and smaller geysers, along with the impressive but dormant Geysir itself.
Gullfoss waterfalls
Our journey through the Golden Circle leads us to Gullfoss, Iceland's breathtaking Golden Waterfall. Here, the Langjökull glacier's meltwater crashes into the Hvítá river gorge, creating a dramatic display of power and beauty. With its distinct curves and golden hues, Gullfoss mesmerizes visitors, leaving them in awe of nature's grandeur. Feel the spray on your face and hear the roar of the water as rainbows dance in the mist. Gullfoss is a testament to Iceland's raw beauty and a reminder of nature's strength.
Optional Snowmobiling on Langjökull Glacier
You will first gear up with an insulated all-in-one jumpsuit, giant mittens and safety helmet. You will then receive instructions for handling these powerful machines. Led by the experienced mountain guide, the snowmobiles shoot off in single file for an hour of often high-speed driving along the carefully chosen route over the glacier.
Reykjavik drop off
As our day comes to an end, we will begin our journey back to Reykjavik. The scenic drive will allow us to reflect on the breathtaking views and experiences we've had in the heart of Icelandic nature.

Your journey
Here's a detailed map of your travel route to provide a clear overview of your journey
How long does it take to drive the Golden Circle in Iceland?
A standard drive of the Golden Circle takes about 6 to 9 hours, depending on how long you spend at each stop. While you can drive it in a day, a private tailor-made tour allows you to set your own pace and escape the crowded bus schedules, ensuring you see the sights without the rush.
What are the must-see stops on the Golden Circle?
The "Big Three" are Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and the mighty Gullfoss waterfall. However, when you book with Amazing Tours Iceland, we often include hidden gems like the Kerid volcanic crater or secret local spots that standard tours miss.
How do I get to Hvammsvík Hot Springs from Reykjavík?
Hvammsvík is located about 45 minutes from Reykjavík in the scenic Hvalfjörður fjord. While you can drive yourself, the best way to visit is as part of a Silver Circle adventure. We can easily add a relaxing soak in these coastal hot springs as a luxurious finish to your private tours in Iceland.
What is the Silver Circle, and how is it different from the Golden Circle?
The Silver Circle is the Golden Circle’s wilder, less-crowded sibling in West Iceland. While the Golden Circle features iconic landmarks like Geysir, the Silver Circle offers the historic Reykholt, Europe's most powerful hot spring (Deildartunguhver), and the stunning Hraunfossar lava waterfalls. It’s the perfect choice for those seeking a more off-the-beaten-path experience.
What makes Amazing Tours Iceland the best choice for private tours?
We specialize in high-end, tailor made Iceland tours using powerful Super Jeeps that can handle any terrain. Unlike big bus companies, we focus on personal service, expert local guides, and the flexibility to adjust your itinerary to your needs.
